About the role:
Gap Inc. is seeking an innovative and results-driven Director of Data Science to lead advanced AI initiatives and drive the next generation of fashion retail solutions. Based in Hyderabad, India, this role requires a highly skilled data science leader with a Ph.D. and deep expertise in building best-in-class AI systems. The successful candidate will have the vision to create cutting-edge models and insights that directly impact business outcomes, including personalization, demand forecasting, product recommendations, inventory optimization and more.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead Data Science Teams: Build, mentor, and manage a team of data scientists focused on delivering high-impact AI solutions across product, inventory management, personalization, and supply chain optimization. - Develop AI Systems for Fashion Retail: Design state-of-the-art AI/ML models and algorithms to enhance customer experience, optimize inventory, and drive incremental demand. - End-to-End Solution Deployment: Collaborate with engineering and product teams to ensure seamless integration and scaling of models within production environments. - Strategic Collaboration: Partner with business units, including marketing, e-commerce, inventory, and merchandising, to identify opportunities and solve critical business challenges with AI-driven insights. - Stay on the Cutting Edge: Monitor advancements in AI/ML research, identifying emerging trends that could benefit Gap Inc.'s business. - Measure Impact: Establish KPIs to assess the performance and business value of AI models, driving continuous improvement.
Who You Are:
- Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field (mandatory). - 10+ years of experience in data science, with a strong focus on AI solutions in retail, fashion, or e-commerce. - Proven expertise in developing advanced machine learning models (e.g., deep learning, reinforcement learning, NLP) and deploying them at scale. - Strong knowledge of retail business processes (e.g., demand forecasting, product recommendations, pricing, and personalization). - Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders. - Excellent leadership skills, with a proven track record of building and mentoring high-performing data science teams. - Expertise in Python, R, SQL, and AI frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn. - Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) for large-scale data processing and model deployment. - Strong analytical mindset with excellent communication skills to translate technical insights into business strategies.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with computer vision models for fashion image analysis or virtual try-on solutions. - Knowledge of recommendation engines, trend forecasting models, and assortment localization techniques. - Familiarity with ML Ops frameworks and best practices for model deployment and monitoring. - Passion for fashion retail and understanding customer preferences across regions and markets.
